Dear Mr. Moore,

I just read your article on wireless networking and thank you for bringing this subject out in the open. 

I am a mother of a child with autism and I recently disconnected our wireless network at home. My son had been complaining of headaches at the base of his skull and it occurred to me that exposure to the same type technology as in cell phones could result in the same risks. My husband thinks I'm overreacting.

My comment to you is this: I have been (as all parents of children with autism do) pouring over information and possibilities of what possibly could have occurred in the last ten years or so to cause this huge jump in the neurological disorder of autism. Vaccines have been around for a very long time...

I keep coming up with the same conclusion: wireless. If it does break down the blood brain barrier, then exposure to this (which we now cannot get away from unless we move to the Ozarks) could allow dangerous elements into the developing brain, resulting in altered development. 

What are your thoughts on this? Obviously, as hard as the vaccine folks fight to prove there is no connection between vaccinations and autism... the wireless industry would be equally, if not more so, defensive of its technology due to the huge usage and money being made by companies with this technology. 

Anywho, if it IS causing neurological defects, and the use of wireless IS ONLY GOING TO INCREASE SUBSTANTIALLY over the next ten years, then we are in for big, big trouble. One can only imagine that if our exposure continues to go up exponentially, there will be disorders and damage occurring to all of us on some level or another.

Sorry to hear about your son's autism. It's not a topic I know a great deal about.

I do share your apprehension about the possible health effects down the road (and possibly right now) of living increasingly in a soup of electromagnetic radiation and radio frequency pollution - electrosmog for short. There is as far as I know no conclusive scientific proof that it's a serious haaard, but I would argue that there is no proof that it isn't either, and there's an awful lot of anecdotal suspicion building.

I actually live in a place that is probably more isolated than the Ozarks - we barely have cell phone reception, but broadband Internet is coming, and it will be wireless here, so there's probably no getting away from it.
